Meet Dr. Setter
Gentle Care.
Clear Communication. Outstanding Results.
Dr. Michael Setter was born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan in a dental family. He fell in love with the University of Michigan at age 5 and completed his undergraduate and dental studies at U of M in Ann Arbor with honors. Needing a change of scenery, he moved to Seattle, WA for his periodontics residency at the University of Washington, where he received a Certificate in Periodontics. There, he also presented his thesis on “The Relationship Between the Mandibular Canal and Mandibular Posterior Root Apices Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography” and received a Master’s degree in the Science in Dentistry. It was there that he fell in love with the beauty of the Northwest and decided to make Portland his home.

In addition to his periodontal training, Dr. Setter graduated from the prestigious Misch International Implant Institute and has achieved Fellowship status in the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He also achieved the highest level of competence within the profession by completing the rigorous board examination and becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, Multnomah County Dental Society, Western Society of Periodontists, and Oregon Society of Periodontists. He is constantly furthering his studies by attending and teaching continuing education courses where he focuses in periodontal diseases, dental implantology, hard and soft tissue reconstruction, and gingival (gum) grafting. Dr. Setter has practiced in Portland since 2011 in a private practice dedicated to all aspects of oral health, periodontics, and dental implantology.

Dr. Setter lives in Portland with his wife, Shelby, a pediatric dentist in Oregon City, and his three boys Lucas, Jacob, and Andrew. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Setter has become a pickleball fanatic and has a passion for board games, movies, and gadgets of all sorts.
